FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about Morocco Travel

Weather & Clothing

What is the climate like in the Merzouga Desert?

  • Winter (Dec – Jan): Daytime highs are around 15–18°C, but nights and early mornings often drop to 3–6°C, sometimes hitting freezing point. Warm clothing is essential.

  • Spring & Autumn: Days are comfortable in short sleeves, but nights get chilly. A light jacket is recommended.

  • Late September: Autumn arrives with daytime temperatures around 30°C and nights around 20°C.

Phone & Internet

How can I stay connected during my trip?

  • Roaming: Many international mobile plans work in Morocco.

  • Local SIM Cards: If your phone is SIM-unlocked, we highly recommend purchasing a prepaid SIM from Maroc Telecom (approx. 20 DH for the card). They offer the best coverage across the country. You can buy these at the airport.

  • Public Phones: These are no longer common in Morocco.

Money & Currency

What is the local currency?

The currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD/DH). While major tourist shops may accept Euros, USD, or even Yen in some cases, it is best to carry Dirhams for daily expenses.

Where can I exchange money or find an ATM?

You can exchange currency at airport exchange bureaus, banks, or post offices. ATMs are widely available in cities for withdrawing Dirhams with international cards, though withdrawal limits per transaction may apply.

Ramadan & Time Zone (2026)

When is Ramadan in 2026?

Ramadan is the holy month of fasting from sunrise to sunset.

  • Estimated Dates: February 18 (sunset) to March 19, 2026. (Exact dates depend on the lunar observation).

  • Travel Impact: Tours run as usual, but some cafes/restaurants may have adjusted hours, and local activity peaks from evening to night.

What about Daylight Saving Time and Time Difference?

Morocco is generally GMT+1.

  • During Ramadan: The clock moves back 1 hour to GMT.

  • 2026 Schedule: On February 15 (3:00 AM), the clock moves back 1 hour. It returns to GMT+1 on March 22 (2:00 AM). Please double-check your flight and train schedules during this transition.
